Important News from BodyVox President

To all members of the BodyVox “family,”

I wanted to keep you informed about an incident that has affected the company.

The BodyVox Dance Center was burglarized on March 19.  The company has filed a police report, and has filed a claim with our insurance company.

There is actually quite a bit of good news to share:

  • No one was hurt.
  • None of the lighting and computer equipment in the theater was lost.
  • Administrative files, including our ticket and donor database, are untouched.
  • I am most proud of the way the company showed professionalism and commitment by presenting a wonderful opening night of Smoke Soup, less than a week after the incident.

Of course we have our challenges, but we have moved forward to meet them:

  • Most unfortunate, our production files are lost.  The company has already begun the process of recreating as much of this as possible.
  • 8 computers were stolen and must be replaced immediately.  Our insurance coverage is supporting that process.
  • File cabinets were damaged, and at least 2 locking, fire-safe cabinets must be replaced as soon as possible.  We look to our community partners for help in finding replacements.
  • We lacked a security system – a cost-saving measure.  But a friend of BodyVox has stepped forward and generously offered to purchase and install a system.

So the show does, in fact, go on!  And if you find yourself asking, “How I help?” there are some things you can do:

Reach out – through phone, mail, email, our website – and share with Jamey and Ashley, the dancers, staff, and crew, your support and thanks for the dedication they showed this week, to bring a wonderful show to the stage for our patrons.

Support the success of Smoke Soup, which runs through April 10, by buying your tickets and by encouraging friends and family to attend as well.

If you have ideas, resources, or contacts to help BodyVox with the financial loss or to replace lost items, please contact managing director Una Loughran (una@bodyvox.com; 503-229-0627).

We are grateful for the support and loyalty of our audience, and thank you for all you have done to bring us to the point of success that we enjoy today.  Below this message you’ll find links to the review of opening night, and a video clip of one of the pieces from Smoke Soup.  Enjoy!

Grateful regards,

Ellen E. Bussing
