Tour to The Hamptons!

July 31, BodyVox had the pleasant adventure of traveling to Long Island, NY for a tour date in the Hamptons. We performed at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, which is one of the most charming theaters we’ve ever played in. We were told to expect a smaller than usual performance space, but the theater is run like a ship. Everything has a place and they are very organized. The staff there was awesome, they really went above and beyond expectations seeing that everything was ready. We adapted our tour show ‘Reverie’ to fit the smaller stage and we had to replace the trapeze piece ‘x-axis’ with ‘Psycho Killer’. But we had a terrific performance and the audience seemed very enthusiastic. Jamey Hampton was out of the country for a family wedding so Eric performed the solo ‘Moto Perpetuo’. It was his first time and he did such a great job!

The evening before the show we went to a restaurant in West Hampton which was right on the water. Though we waited two hours for a table before deciding to eat elsewhere, the view and sunset were delicious! We felt very glamorous hobnobbing with the rich and famous with drinks and appetizers, and found some comfort in the fact that they didn’t seat Hollywood’s Eric Stoltz before us. I guess BodyVox can hold our own up against Le Beau Monde after all.

We also went to Smith Point Park which is a gorgeous beach with wide sandy beaches, soft white sand and great swimming waters. Their lifeguards are well renowned and I think now we all know why.

After the performance, the theater hosted a champagne reception in their beautiful garden for the company and their patrons. It was great to get to meet everyone, but a special treat to meet Maggie Gilliam who has been a benefactor of the dance performances at the WHBPAC. She is a gracious and personable woman and we appreciate her support of dance. Every theater should be so blessed to have someone like her.

Now, it’s back to Portland, back to the studio and back to work as we restage Carmina Burana for our twelfth time for performances with the Portland Opera next month as well as creating our new show ‘BloodyVox’ which will premiere in October.
