We all arrived today feeling nervous, excited and a bit unsure about how we were going to pull off a performance. As Jeff came in with his calm smile and turned the music on, we all exhaled and started working it out. He helped us mark a stage entrance that involved half of us entering from opposing ends of the stage; weaving together and then getting into our positions to begin. We were feeling pretty ready for the show so we then switched to Break Dancing with Michael. By this time, parents were trickling in, and everyone started to get a little shy. It was a bit more embarrassing doing break dancing, because of all the improvisation involved, but it was still fun!
When most of the parents were there, we all formed a large circle. One by one, each of us went into the middle and did some top rocks, then floor work and ended in a freeze move. It was so fun and the audience started clapping to the beat and a few of my classmates really rocked it! Then as a special surprise, Michael went into the center and showed us some pretty amazing, gymnastic-like Break Dancing that involved balancing his whole body on his hands and spinning in a circle.....it was pretty cool and inspiring!
After that we showed our Hip-Hop routine. We did extremely well, and it was fun to be able to show it off to our parents.
Personally, I’m sad the six weeks are over. I’ve never took Hip-Hop or Break dancing before, so it was fun to break out of the technically perfect world of Ballet and mix things up.. I can tell this 6-week session has inspired my class a lot! Every dance or party we’ve had since this has started, a few of us have gotten down on the dance floor with our new Hip Hop & break dancing moves.
Thank you, from all of us, to our amazing teachers, Jeff and Michael! Watch out because I think we may have inspired our parents to take BodyVox’s adult beginner classes.........now that would be fun to see!
