BodyVox has ample reason to celebrate this weekend, as the dance company throws open the doors to its new 10,000-square-foot Pearl District dance center in a collaborative piece with Portland Opera. BodyVox's new space, a cavernous 1890s red brick jewel of a building, shouts potential. Co-directors Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland mined it Thursday evening with their premiere of "The Foot Opera Files," a surprisingly intimate cabaret that wended its way through multiple rooms and a vertiginous, girders-exposed mezzanine for a circuslike theater of opera singers, Gypsy jazz, modern dance and Tom Waits. read more
