(Portland, OR) - In spring 2010 BodyVox premieres Smoke Soup, a richly layered companion piece to the company's 2009 hit show The Foot Opera Files. Once again co-artistic directors Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland will work with a team of choreographers to include Eric Skinner, Daniel Kirk, and Matt Hope and set the full show to the music of a single composer: Grammy-nominated producer and song writer Joe Henry. Known for a genre spanning musical style, the LA TIMES writes that "Joe Henry crafts music of raw grace and muted passion, a sound endlessly smoky, contemplative and cool." For Smoke Soup, Henry's music will be performed live by a house band led by Michael Papillo and featuring mezzo soprano Hannah Penn.
For Smoke Soup, Hampton and Roland have created a separate world - setting 15 dances from multiple choreographers on recurring characters that evolve throughout the show. Costumes are layered to support the evolution of individual characters throughout the show. Smoke Soup will feature BodyVox's main company performers as well as apprentice troupe BodyVox-2.
