(Portland, Oregon) BodyVox presents the second show of it's 2011-12 home season when the skinner/kirk DANCE ENSEMBLE takes the stage this February 2-11. Co-artistic directors Eric Skinner and Daniel Kirk are two of Portland's most gifted dancer/choreographers, and mainstays of Portland's rich dance culture. Founding members of BodyVox, they have performed with a host of Oregon companies including, Ballet Oregon, Oregon Ballet Theatre, aero/betty aerial dance and Gregg Bielemeier Dance Project.
The duo launched skinner/kirk DANCE ENSEMBLE in 2002 as a vehicle for their choreographic invention. They have created five shows and been presented by White Bird. The skinner/kirk DANCE ENSEMBLE performs work that is intensely musical and inherently moving, while taking "...the traditional techniques of ballet into innovative territory." (The Oregonian).
"Eric and Daniel have played an integral role in the work of BodyVox and became our great friends in the process. We are delighted to have this opportunity to share their deliciously distinctive artistic vision with our audience" states BodyVox's Ashley Roland.
This February's program at the BodyVox Dance Center will feature four dances and include two premieres: an as yet untitled work from skinner/kirk, and "Flying Over Emptiness" by acclaimed Portland choreographer Josie Mosley. The program will also include revival of the trapeze duet "One" set to one of Canteloube's beautiful 'Songs of the Auvergne', and "Obstacle Allusions" accompanied live by pianist Bill Crane. The work will be performed by dancers Margo Yohner, Heather Jackson, Holly Shaw, Zach Carroll, Elizabeth Burden, Daniel Kirk, Eric Skinner.
