Sara Parker is a movement artist, choreographer, dancer and teacher who has been a part of the Portland dance community and BodyVox Dance in varying capacities since 2009.
She holds an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah(2015) where she was granted a Graduate Teaching Assistantship and was the recipient of the Dee Winterton Award. Additionally, she holds a B.S. in Dance from the University of Oregon (2009).
Currently, she is the Education Programs Manager and a teaching artist at BodyVox Dance where she is on faculty and choreographs for the Junior Artist Generator (JAG) program, as well as open classes. In the past, she has served as the Chair of the Dance Program at Portland Community College and has also been on teaching faculty at AWOL Dance Collective, Oregon Ballet Theater, Conduit Dance and Oregon State University, as well as guest teaching opportunities at University of Oregon and the University of Utah.
As a choreographer, Sara’s work has appeared at BodyVox Dance Center, The Headwaters Theatre, Portland Community College, Lane Community College, Portland State University, The Hult Center, Lincoln Performance Hall, Conduit Dance, Northwest Dance Project Studio and Performance Center, Mariott Center for Dance, Mudson, The Ladies Literary Club, Portland5 at The Brunish, On the Boards, and Portland Center Stage at The Armory.
When not teaching dance, creating, or performing, Sara teaches Gyrotonic® and Manages Kinespirit Circle Gyrotonic® and Pilates Studio.
Sara believes that dance is a powerful catalyst for personal and communal revolution and her aim is to make a positive impact through choreography, performance, teaching, and administration.
